a) Safety protection measures and accidents

In order to avoid the occurrence of unexpected occupational accidents, the company made the equipping standard and the regulation on supervision and control of the labor protection articles to clearly regulate the equipping standard and the management of the labor protection articles, ensuring employees' safety at work.

The company deployed three-level safety training system for each employee and safety certificate system for employees on particular posts before they start working and made related safety operating requirements for the employees working in the important safety parts of ships. The safety precautions confirmation system should be required for the high-altitude operation, outboard work, working with naked fire, boiler examination & repair and operation in closed places. By executing the above-mentioned systems, the company effectively controlled the occurrence of the employee occupational accidents, enabling the accident occurrence rate to come down year after year. According to the requirements from the Provisions on the Report and Handling of Casualty Accidents to Enterprise Employees, the company reports, calculates, investigates and manages employee casualty accidents in time and actively carries out measures to prevent the casualty accidents. Required by the PRC Occupational Disease Prevention and Cure Law, the company takes measures to prevent, control and remove the harms caused by the occupational diseases. The situation of the occupational diseases will be reported as requested by Measures for the Occupational Disease Reports once they occur.

b) Occupational health and safety

Employee health examination is organized annually and each employee on the land is required to take the overall health examination. At the same time, considered the work fluidity of the seamen, all the seamen should attend the health examination before they go on board and only those pass the health examination can go on board for work. Each employee's healthy information has been recorded in the individual personnel information. The company invites medical experts to explain the results for the health examination and give lectures, and inaugurates web page for occupational safety and health on the internal LAN to introduce the knowledge on the health and sanitation aperiodically. Medical experts are invited to launch the special health lectures every once or twice a year to introduce the common diseases, frequently-occurring diseases and related preventive measures. Equipped with necessary first aid medicines and ordinary medicines, infirmaries are provided for the land units with centralized companies and employees (two and three professional doctors are equipped for the supply company and the education center) to help employees with medical aid in time and cut the medical expense. 81%, 87% and 91% of the employees participated in the employee health examination in Y2003, Y2004 and Y2005 respectively. The company attaches great importance to the prevention and control work for HIV/AIDS, widely and further deploying the work of publicity and education to construct a good atmosphere for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. Every December is the month for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the company. HIV/AIDS related prevention and control contents are released through the LAN for publicity. The requirements from the Blood Donation Act of the People's Republic of China and the local blood donation regulation are strictly followed in the company, which organizes employees to donate bloods each year and provides free Planned Parenthood articles at the fixed places to control the spread of HIV/AIDS through blood and sex.

c) Enrichment of employees' cultural and physical life

An employee art department was established to approach employee life and organize employees to create and perform programs that can reflect the spirits of the employees to motivate the sense of the master responsibilities of them. Various cultural and physical entertainment activities such as employee art, handwriting & photography show and public PE match, etc. are held aperiodically by the company to enrich employees' spirit life. Moreover, the company organized an organizational football team and badminton team, set up the special practice time, retained professional coaches for instruction and actively organized and joined in related match activities. The company annually appropriates funds of RMB100K as the guarantee for the activities mentioned above.

The company built reading room for ships, equipped them with facilities such as video camera, VCD, Karla OK sonic equipments and healthy equipments, and provided books for the branches in Europe, America and Australia to enhance the cultural construction, enrich the employee amateur cultural and physical life and promote the communication.

In 2005, the company adjusted the locations for employees to relax and recuperate. Based on the broad suggestions from employees, the company chose Hainan, Guilin , Jinggangshan Mountain , and Jiuzhaigou as the locations for relaxation and recuperation. Total 181 employees were involved in the program that has been arranged for seven times.
