Application of environmental protection technology
a) Electronic timing SIP cylinder oil lubricating system
Since 2003, the Company began to adopt large-scaled electronic timing SIP cylinder oil lubricating system, changing the traditional lubricating method of mechanical timing oil injection and piston ring lubricant. Adoption of electronic timing oil injection method improves the oil-injection pressure, brings benefits to the pulverization of oils. Electronic timing SIP cylinder oil lubricating system solves the lubricating issue of cylinders of large-scaled diesel engines. The company installed ALPHA oil injector on MAN B&W10L80MC diesel engines used on vessels, and makes reasonable technological improvements on cylinder case, heating and cooling of cylinder oil, saving the oils of cylinders by 32%-35%. Oil consumption volume of MAN B&W10L90MC cylinder reached 35%-40%. After the adoption of this technology, oil consumption of cylinders was reduced greatly. After measurements, it was found that pollutant oil of gas-sweeping cylinder of diesel engines was reduced by 25%, reducing the workload and fees for disposal of pollutant oils and contributing to the protection of ocean environment and satisfaction of conventions. At meantime, breakdown frequency of diesel engines was reduced, work reliability and vessel operation rate of diesels were improved, and the maintenance and reparation workload and fees were reduced. Statistics showed that oil saving rate of vessels reached 20% to 40% after refitting. Annual oil-saving volume of a single vessel was 40 tons to 180 tons. At the end of 2005, 15 vessels of the company were installed with the system, which will be applied to all large vessels of the company at an annual speed of 6% to 10%.

b) Application of oil monitoring technologies in maintenance and reparation of machines on the vessels
Oil and liquid supervision technology adopted by the vessel mechanic equipment provides predictable maintenance of the vessel tail-shaft and the power device under the condition of oil and liquid supervision. Take the prediction of a vessel with 50000 horsepower for example. If the oil consumption of the cylinder reduces by 0.1 gram per horsepower hour (at present, actual cylinder oil consumption is about 0.3 gram bigger than that recommended by the diesel engine manufacturer), a cylinder oil consumption of 35000kg can be save annually. Under the condition of cylinder oil, reasonable adjustment of the cylinder oil consumption is propitious to the reasonable adjustment of the cylinder oil and reduction of the cylinder oil consumption. The technology not only guarantees the normal operation of the equipment and reduction of accidents, but also sharply improves the reliability and utility of the vessel equipment, increases operation and transport ability of the vessels, prolongs the maintenance period to the utmost extent and reduces the cost of maintenance and examination as well. With the increased technology of vessel equipment management, the service life of lubricant is prolonged by the oil and liquid supervision technology, which reduces the operation expense of the equipment and the pollution caused by discharge of lubricant and thus benefits the environmental protection. The Company started to popularize the technology in 2002. By the end of 2005, 40 vessels of the company had applied the technology and 10 vessels are supposed to be installed with the technology every year.
c) Use of the antifouling paint
In June 2005, Paint Intersleek700 was first put into use when the ship River Yugu was repaired at the dock. With the excellent antifouling property, the paint keeps many other oceanic creatures, except some bacterial microorganism, away from the vessel, which means that the vessels only have to be rinsed with low-pressure fresh water and the surface of the vessels will be shining as newly made. The surface of the paint gets very smooth after moistened by water and roughness of the paint is far lower than any other currently-used antifouling paint. As time goes by, the roughness of the hull (i.e. hull resistance) varies very slightly, which saves about 7% of the fuel after application of the paint. Besides, with the excellent property of environmental protection, the antifouling paint is free of pesticide, which causes no pollution to the ocean environment. The nudge from the fact is very important though there have been only a few vessel painted with this product. More of the paint will be applied in the future reparation and construction.
