The group has installed online monitoring facility for pollutant emission, i.e. 15PPM monitoring device of oil-water separator. It has kept 100% environmental protection facility, and 100% stale operation ratio for environmental protection facilities. The group has attained 100% ship industry waste (including garbage, oil dirt and residue, etc) processing and disposal.

Retired ship policy and re-utilization ratio
According to the No.2 Order of the Ministry of Communication, COSCO ships reaching the retirement year should retire on schedule, and COSCO ships that are not fit for ocean shipping should withdraw from specialty shipping companies of COSCO after technological authentication and be sold to other shipping companies. Its ships retired in recent three years include: 8 ships with 32,717 tons of carrying capacity retired in 2003, 2 ships with 17,067 tons of carrying capacity retired in 2004, and 4 ships with 89,893 tons of carrying capacity retired in 2005. The withdrawn ships of the group are divided into operation ships and waste steel ships and are sold to ship companies with operation qualification and to qualified ship disassembly companies respectively. So all its retired ships won't pose threat to the environment.

Enhancing resource recycling and comprehensive utilization

(1) Driving waste recycling and comprehensive utilization: each subsidiary, especially shipbuilding and ship-repairing enterprises should enhance comprehensive waste utilization to decrease waste.

(2) Doing better in the utilization of recycled resources. All subsidiaries should focus on the recycling and utilization of recycled metal, waste tyres, waste electric appliances and electronic products.
