Situation of certification related with economy, environment and social management system:

COSCO has passed the joint certification of Det Norske Veritas, China Classification Society Quality Assurance Ltd, Assessment and Certification Center of National Center of Safety Science, for its ’s comprehensive management system, and has obtained certificates of ISO9000: 2000 Quality Management System Standard, and ISO14000: 2004 Environmental Management System Standard. The system has also won Modern Enterprise Management System Certificate after the initial appraisal.

  President of Det Norske Veritas is awarding the Certificate of Modern Enterprise Management System to COSCO Group President Wei Jiafu.  
  All ships of COSCO Group have gained Ship Assessment Certificate.  

In the internal auditing and external audition carried out in 2005, the group’s safety management has obtained high praise based on the evaluation and assessment according to the Brochure of COSCO Group’s Enterprise Excellence Mode Management System Evaluation.

In terms of energy conserving, environmental protection, improvement of energy efficiency, all shipping companies and ship management companies of COSCO Group have established their safety and pollution prevention management system based on the Regulation on International Safety Management issued by the International Maritime Organization. All ships have passed obliged certification, with each holding SMC certificate. And all subsidiary shipping companies have passed the certification of the Regulation on International Safety Management before July 1, 2002, with each holding DOC certificate.

As a global ocean carrier, COSCO Group has been in active support for the anti-terrorism activities in the international maritime circle. In recent years, the group has actively driven and implemented a series of new law documents including the Amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code), and all its ships have gained the International Ship Security Certificate. The group submitted the application for the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) to the US Customs in July 2002, and was approved and awarded the certificate of C-TPAT.

Subsidiaries of COSCO Group has been attaching great importance to internal auditing, external auditing, and management evaluation and assessment, and has been strict in the execution of the assessment procedures. With the joint efforts of staff onboard and on the land, the group has successfully passed the annual assessment for safety management and public security management system. At the same time, the operation of safety management system is in continuous improvement, and employees’ safety risk consciousness and comprehensive quality have seen obvious improvement. By the end of 2005, the group has operated and managed 467 owned ships, all of which run safety management system. A total of 953 ships have been assessed and certified, including 86 for interim assessment, 31 for certificate replacement assessment, 13 for ship added assessment, and 167 for internal assessment.
