COSCO has joined many influential shipping organizations home and abroad, making its own contributions to maintain and push the healthy and sustainable development of the international shipping industry.
COSCO has took active part in the establishment of related national and international conventions, laws, regulations, rules and statutes, and took active part in various shipping and related organizations, making important contributions to promoting and leading industry’s healthy development, avoiding vicious competition, etc. Meanwhile parts of corporation’s stipulations, cited and used for reference by some national sectors, have become the industry standards. In addition, the group is active in making conclusions for industry experiences and lessons, sharing research results in the forms of publication, network, etc. The corporation has provided directions, reference and technology support for domestic and foreign enterprises, undertaking its responsibility and making its own contributions.

At the end of 2005, the World Customs Organization invited over 30 internationally
famous enterprises to join its newly established Business Consulting Workgroup,
in order to promote its Commerce Safety and Convenience Framework Standard
worldwide. These enterprises were invited to provide suggestions and advice
for them to establish framework standards. COSCO is one of two invited shipping
enterprises. Since the promotion of the framework standard is closely related
with the global shipping industry development, COSCO accepted the invitation
and took active part in every conference of the workgroup, providing consulting
advice for official of the organization.

COSCO Group and its subsidiaries have joined multiple organizations and institutions related with social responsibility.
The group has joined China Business Council for Sustainable Development as a deputy director unit, actively driving the sustainable development. COSCO joined World Business Council for Sustainable Development in March, 2006.
In November 2004, President Wei Jiafu wrote a letter to Kofi A. Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, promising the group’s support for the Global Compact and its principles. In January 2005, COSCO got the approval of the United Nations to become a member of Global Compact.
