■ On-site management on ships of COSCO Xiamen
Guide the ships to arrange the load arrangement and the cabin arrangement for cargos to avoid the cargo damage due to the inadequate cabins; enable scientific stowage and fastening in accordance with the characteristics of the loading/unloading ports and the cargos to prevent such serious safety issues as cargo damage and loosening of the cargo colligation due to the large space of the cabin and the cracking of the steel wire for binding; track and guide the management during the transport and the unloading management over cargos by ships: requiring ships to regularly check the binding of the cargos and re-binding the cargos whose packaging have been loosened during the shipping, correctly taking the ventilation measures according to the humidity, temperature of cabins inside and outside and characteristics of cargos to prevent the cargo damage due to sweats; analyze the cargo damages and shortages annual and take actions to improve the cargo freight quality. In Oct. 2006, the company put forward six suggestions on improving the cargo freight quality and guiding the ships to prevent cargo damages and shortages according to the analysis on the cargo damages and shortages of ships.

■ COSCO Qingdao develops the Maritime Supervision Management Information System (MSMIS)
In order to enhance the dynamic tracking management over ships and the tracking management over staff to ensure the safety of staff, ships and cargos, the company's safety supervision commissions together with the technology companies developed the MSMIS after one year of efforts, which took effective on Jun. 1, 2006. This system integrates the safety management, checking, tracking, monitoring, rectification, feedback, analysis and statistics to enhance the dynamic tracing management over ships and staff to maximally reduce or avoid the possibility of risks due to the artificial negligence, ensure the safety of both ships and employees while avoid and reduce various accidents to ships. The development and the application of MISMIS demonstrate the great roles of the scientific results in the lean management and conform to the requirements of the building ”a safe and long-term effective mechanism“. Embodying the management concept of scientific investment and powerful estimation, its powerful enterprise functions further improve the company's supervision and management on the maritime safety was also improved, playing very important roles in avoiding and reducing the ship safety accidents and providing safe and high-quality services for clients. Based on the imported electronic ocean map-based fleet management system, the dynamic tracing systems for ships is developed based on the data applications of the user by taking the actual situations of the company's fleets into account. With this system, the real-time dynamics of COSCO ships are displayed on the electronic sea maps and adjust the ship berths according to the weather and the influence on ships or according to actual needs. When fighting against the typhoons and the strong wind wave, the daily weather and typhoon information are displayed on the electronic ocean map to overlap the existing trends of all ships. In this way, the ship's dynamics, the position, moving, relative movements and the weather in surrounding regions will be clear at a glance, playing important roles in the daily safety tracking management and emergency rescues. It also provides the scientific bases for the commanding decision-making and the further guarantee for the company to offer powerful shore-based support.
■ System construction of COSCO Shipyard
Meting clients' needs, safety regulations and other requirements has been the top priority of COSCO Shipyard for many years. The company focuses on the thought of ”human-oriented, safety the first“ to pursue the excellence and improve the service constantly. Both the company's headquarters and its subsidiaries have passed the series certification of ISO90000. At the same time, shipyards have passed the certification of the OHSA18001 certification and established the technology standard systems that can fully meet the requirements of SOLAS, IACS and classification societies to ensure that they can provide customers with quality products and services catering to international standards. COSCO Shipyard realizes that quality and safety are the basis for its survival and development. In order to improve the quality and safety and establish good enterprise image, the company's headquarters and major shipyards establish the quality and safety management systems according to the requirements of GB/T19001-2000 ”Requirements of Quality Management System” (idt ISO9001:2000) and OHSAS18001:1999 (GB/T28001-2001) “Regulations of Occupational Healthy and Safety System“ while taking the actual situation of COSCO Shipyard into account. In order to better provide quality products and services for clients and meet the international conventions and related laws and regulations of the country, COSCO Shipyard has established the compliant management systems according to the requirements of related conventions and regulations since initial planning for the management systems. In order to make workplaces meet the requirements for occupational health and safety and provide employees with comfortable and safe working environment, COSCO Shipyard makes unified planning to identify thousands of danger sources according to the classifications of workplaces and decides nearly 100 important danger sources for key parts and key points. Currently, safety management has become an important part of the enterprise culture of COSCO Shipyard, and its employees can self-consciously follow various safety regulations.

■ Safety of passenger vessels being the top priority
MV Shuzhouhao is a weekly passenger vessel that shuttles between China and Japan. It has safely carried over 50,000 passengers from over 50 countries during more than 10 years of operation, which earned it the good reputation not only in China and Japan but also in the world. It is an important foreign-oriented window of Shanghai Port and is considered by passengers as a “home on ocean”. MV Suzhouhao was rated the “Safe and Honest Ship” by Maritime Safety Administration of China for two times in a row, and the ”Excellent Enterprise of National Safety & Health Cup“ by All China Federation of Trade Unions, China Communist Youth League and State Administration of Work Safety. The ship realizes “five 100 percentage awards”: 100% of safety rate, 100% of on-schedule rate, 100% of cargo perfection, 100% of passenger satisfaction and 100% of no accidents to people. In the routine work, the ship fully leverages the on-site checking and supervision role of the safety inspectors of departments and the checking and supervision role of the heads on the labor sites. Their objective is to continue extending the days of safe operation of MV Suzhouhao.
