COSCO is well convinced that the social responsibility of an enterprise is to construct and spread the excellent enterprise culture rather than being used as a commercial stance only. An excellent Corporate Citizen is supposed to integrate its concern about the society and the environment into the daily operation, and turn the sustainable development and the corporate responsibility into an indispensable part of all its operations. Therefore, COSCO has established management systems and long-term efficiency mechanism for sustainable development.
COSCO has realized that Global Compact and sustainable development are not temporary behaviors of entrepreneurs, but should the constantly reasonable behaviors of enterprises. Enterprises should perform the Global Compact and social responsibilities according to plans and on a continual basis, besides that such performance should be integrated with the daily operation.
In order to ensure that COSCO can implement the Global Compact and the sustainable development based on system and planning, COSCO has rebuilt its business procedures, to integrate the terms and requirements of comprehensive risk management and Global Compact into the operation and management decision-making and business procedures in
accordance with the Global Compact Social Liability Management System Guidelines, GRI Sustainability Reporting Guideline, and Guidelines for National Enterprises on Comprehensive Risk Management, to build up the Procedures for Social Responsibility and Harmonious Enterprise Management and Procedures for Sustainable Development Report, and risk management procedures for key processes. At the same time, through working standards, the corporation put the Global Compact and sustainable development, risk management requirements and risk authorization into the actual practice of every COSCO person. The sustainable development management system and the sustainable development report management system are established by using the framework of ISO9000 quality system. On Feb. 23, 2006, COSCO successfully passed the auditing of DNV and China Classification Society (CSS); On Mar. 28, COSCO was rewarded with the certificates in comprehensive risk management and Global Compact. According to the auditing team, COSCO's modern enterprise management system featured with international standard, perspectiveness and systematization, which fully carries out the guiding thought of the scientific concept of development and lays a solid foundation for COSCO to achieve he leap-forward development. |
