¡ö Strategic cooperation agreements inked with
¡¡ customers
COSCO has been actively cooperating with customers to propel the sustainable development. In 2006, COSCO's subsidiaries reached strategic partnerships with local governments and VIP clients including Tianjin, Sinopec, Jinan Steel and 17 national automobile vendors by actively leveraging the system integration theory, increasing the number of leading enterprises signing long-term agreements with COSCO to 36. COSCO also enhances the controlling over the procurement sources by detailing and implementing the strategic cooperation agreements signed with VIP clients. For example, COSCO Dalian and Sinopec signed a long-term agreement for the shipment of crude oil import, totaling 5 million-10 million tons annually; COSCO Container Lines signed a contract with Ancai Group for annual transport of 10,000 TEUs; COSCO Qingdao and Capital Iron & Steel Group concluded a 3-year COA on iron ore shipment from Australia, totaling 12 million tons; COSCO Logistics and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction (Group) signed a logistics contract for 5 million tons of oil refining project in Algeria, which is valued at RMB 200 million. The signing of these contracts and agreements provides a guarantee for COSCO to carry out a dynamic balance between the procurement source and carrying capacity thus enabling the group's sustainable development.
 
¡ö COSCO has successfully hosted and well organized 3 times of World Shipping (China) Summit
COSCO joined hands with the industry peers to aggressively push the healthy and sustainable development of the shipping industry. From Nov. 2 to Nov. 3, 2006, the 3rd World Shipping (China) Summit, hosted and organized by COSCO, was held in Shenzhen. Capt. Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of COSCO Group and Chairman of China Ship-owners' Association, delivered a keynote speech named ¨°What will China Further Contribute to World Shipping¨®, while executive vice president Zhang Fusheng chaired the opening ceremony. With a theme of ¨°Managing Change¨®, the summit aimed to deeply analyze the new changes and new trends of the economy and trade, shipping and related industries in recent years, research the challenges and the opportunities brought by the changes to understand the future market trends and develop countermeasures. Over 50 representatives including Mr. Li Shenglin, Minister of Ministry of Communications P.R. China, Dr. Stephen Ladyman, MP, Secretary of State for Transport of the UK,Mr. Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of Ministry of Communications P.R.China, Mr. Xu Zongheng, Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr. Alberto Aleman Zubieta, Administrator of Panama Canal Authority and many others addressed this summit. The summit attracted more than 600 delegates including world-renowned experts and representatives of shipping and related industries around the world
¡ö Participating in activities in World Maritime Day --- Elevate the spirit of patriotism, actively push forward shipping undertaking
As a spearhead fleet in China, COSCO is committed to Òdevelop the spirit of patriotism, further improve the neighborliness and running ocean shipping with high-tech support? COSCO actively participated in activities in China Maritime Day celebration. On the day of the 2nd China Maritime Day, all COSCO's ships held the ceremony of whistle blowing and dressing ship overall. In order to promote the scientific shipping and push up the maritime undertaking, COSCO also took part in China's first science popularization exhibition for maritime industry. Its pavilion with vivid details and innovative forms was welcomed by the audiences, which not only helped audiences know more about the maritime but also fully demonstrated COSCO's strength and brand name to enhance the pride of the nation.
¡ö COSCO actively participates in and carries out SASAC's researches and guiding suggestions on corporate responsibility
As a state-owned enterprise, COSCO actively participates in topic researches on the corporate social responsibility of state-owned enterprises and carries out SASAC's the Guiding Suggestions of Social Responsibility of State-owned Enterprises (Draft collecting for opinions). Relevant departments of SASAC offered guidance to COSCO that was regarded as a key unit in implementing social responsibility by state-owned enterprises.
 
 
COSCO and DNV signed the joint statement to jointly boost the implementation of the Global Compact and sustainable development in China, and COSCO entrusted DNV to implement the independent 3rd-party auditing according to the Auditing Procedures for Sustainable Development Report. China Classification Society (CCS) actively joined COSCO to construct the sustainable development management system and cooperated with COSCO to propel the sustainable development.
